I'm Melissa. I live in the mountains of Ellijay, Georgia with two dogs who have strong opinions about every product they've ever sniffed, chewed, or dragged through the mud. This site exists because of them.
Jennie & Baxley — Ellijay, Georgia
A few years ago, Jennie started having digestive issues. I cycled through brands, switched proteins, spent more on "premium" kibble — and nothing helped. My vet suggested trying homemade food for a couple of weeks to reset her gut.
Two weeks in, she was a different dog. Better energy. No more upset stomachs. Shinier coat. I didn't go back.
That experience cracked something open for me. I started reading every label, researching every ingredient, questioning every "top rated" list. Most of the product recommendations I'd been trusting were written by people who clearly didn't own dogs — or were quietly paid to push specific brands.
So I started keeping my own list. The things Jennie and Baxley actually use. The gear that survives mountain hikes and enthusiastic chewing. The food that goes in their bowls every single week. Jennie & Baxley is that list — made public.
Jennie is a female pit mix we adopted as a rescue. She's the original reason this site exists. Methodical, opinionated, and not easily impressed — if Jennie genuinely loves something, it made the cut on merit alone. She's the one who pushed me toward homemade food and never looked back. On the trail she leads; in the kitchen she supervises closely.
Baxley is the little one — don't let the size fool you. He has the energy of three large dogs and tests durability in ways I didn't anticipate. If a toy lasts a full week with Baxley, it's genuinely tough. He's the enthusiastic counterpart to Jennie's discerning nature. Together, they cover the full spectrum.
Mountain hikes, river swims, North Georgia mud. Products earn their spot here.
We use affiliate links, but nobody pays to be on this list. If it flopped, you'll hear that too.
Jennie's health taught me that simple, real ingredients beat slick packaging every time.
I know how easy it is to waste money on dog products that looked great online and got ignored the moment your dog sniffed them. I've been there. Everything on this site has been through the real test — daily life with two active mountain dogs who have zero patience for mediocre gear.
When I find something better, the list gets updated. When something I recommended disappoints, I'll say so. That's the whole deal.
